What Makes the Ennstal Classic So Special?

The main competition is reserved for historically significant vehicles built up to 1972. Many of them come from an era when driving was far more direct than it is today, with fewer assistance systems, more mechanical input and a much closer connection between driver and car.

That philosophy also defines the event itself. Modern electronic devices for measuring time and distance are not permitted in the main competition. Instead, teams rely on tools such as traditional stopwatches and mechanical trip meters.

As a result, the car is only one part of the equation. Driver and co-driver must work closely together, read the road, judge distances and hit their target times as accurately as possible.

What Is a Regularity Competition?

Unlike in conventional motorsport, the fastest car does not automatically win a regularity competition.

For certain sections of the route, teams are given specific target times or average speeds. Their task is to match them as precisely as possible. Crossing a timing point too early or too late results in penalty points.

It may sound straightforward, but in practice it quickly becomes demanding. Even the smallest deviation can make a difference. At the same time, teams must keep an eye on traffic, the route, the car and the clock.

This is a major part of what makes the Ennstal Classic so fascinating. Speed takes a back seat, while concentration, sensitivity and precision become the decisive factors.

The REMUS Special Stage in Niederöblarn

On Friday, the route took the teams to Niederöblarn Airfield, where the REMUS special stage presented them with one more challenge.

After a long day of rallying, complete focus, a strong feel for the car and perfect timing were essential. Driver and co-driver once again had to work as one and hit the decisive moment as accurately as possible. The best-performing team on the stage was awarded the REMUS Retro Trophy.

It is exactly this direct connection between people, machines and the driving experience that makes the Ennstal Classic so special to us. Cars with character, technology you can feel and hear, and the pure enjoyment of truly driving them have always been at the heart of REMUS. That made it all the more rewarding to contribute to this unique experience with a special stage of our own.

REMUS also accompanied the participants throughout the many kilometres of the rally. Each official welcome package included a REMUS drinking bottle as a practical companion for the days on the road.
